The men's section covers skincare, shaving, body care and fragrance. Worth being honest about what actually differs from the rest of the catalogue.
What genuinely differs
Shaving products. A real category with real requirements — pre-shave, shaving products and aftershave balms address something specific.
Textures and scent profiles. Men's ranges typically use lighter, faster-absorbing textures and drier, less sweet fragrances. That is a preference difference, and a legitimate one.
Fragrance families. The men's fragrance section leans toward fougère, aquatic, woody and spicy.
What does not differ
Skin is skin. There is no male skin type that requires a separate moisturiser — the same rules apply: oily skin wants light textures, dry skin wants richer ones, everyone needs sun protection.
If a product from the general range suits your skin better, use it. The section headings are marketing, not dermatology.
The one genuine difference: men who shave daily are exfoliating their face daily, which makes barrier-supporting products more relevant and aggressive exfoliants less so.
The three-product routine
Enough for most people:
- A gentle cleanser — morning and evening
- A moisturiser matched to your skin type
- Sun protection — the step most often skipped and the one that matters most
An aftershave balm if you shave, which doubles as the moisturiser.
Shaving without irritation
The most common complaint in this category:
- Soften the beard first — warm water for a minute, or shave after a shower
- Shave with the grain on the first pass; against it is where irritation and ingrown hairs come from
- Sharp blades. A dull blade drags, and dragging is what causes razor burn
- Rinse cool afterwards
- A balm rather than a splash. Alcohol-heavy aftershaves sting because they are stripping already-irritated skin
Persistent ingrown hairs, particularly with curly facial hair, may need a different technique or an electric razor — and if they become inflamed, a doctor rather than a product.
Fragrance
Two rather than one: something light for work, something heavier for evenings. Two or three sprays at the pulse points — and remember your own nose stops registering it within minutes, which is how overapplication happens.
For the fragrance families, see the perfume section; for skincare basics, the skincare section.
