Wow So Volume is a volume-effect thermo mascara. Two things worth understanding: what "thermo" means, and why mascara has stricter hygiene rules than anything else in a makeup bag.

What a thermo formula is

A thermo mascara is formulated to respond to the warmth of your skin and lashes as you apply it — the texture softens slightly on contact, which is intended to help it wrap the lash and hold a shape.

In practice it means work reasonably quickly and apply the second coat while the first is still slightly warm and damp. Going back over a coat that has set produces clumps, more so than with a standard formula.

Volume, specifically

Volume mascaras use denser formulas and fuller brushes to coat each lash heavily. They suit sparse or fine lashes and evening looks; if your lashes are already thick, a lengthening formula will look better.

Apply at the roots with a slight wiggle — density at the base is what creates the impression of fullness — then draw upward. Two thin coats, not one thick one.

The hygiene rules

Mascara sits next to your eye, which makes it the one product where these genuinely matter:

Replace it every three months. Not when it runs out. The formula dries and the tube becomes a place bacteria collect, and eye infections from old mascara are common and entirely avoidable.

Never add water or any liquid to revive a drying tube. It introduces bacteria and makes the texture worse.

Do not pump the wand. It forces air in, which dries the formula. Twist as you pull it out.

Never share it. Not with a friend, not with a tester at a counter.

Throw it away after an eye infection, without exception.

Removal

Hold a pad with micellar water or cleansing milk against closed lashes for a few seconds, then wipe downward in the direction the lashes grow. Rubbing pulls lashes out, and thinning lashes make every future application look worse.

Curling

Before mascara, never after. A curler on coated lashes breaks them.
