A BB cream is not a thinner foundation - it is a different product with a different job. Where foundation is built to even out and cover, a BB cream is built to blur, hydrate and give skin a better version of its own finish. This one sits in Faberlic's Hyaluronic Makeup line, positioned around hydration.
When a BB cream is the right choice
Reach for it instead of foundation when:
- Your skin is in reasonable condition and you want evening-out rather than coverage
- You want a fast routine - BB creams are far more forgiving of quick application
- The weather is warm, and a full base feels heavy
- You are going bare-faced otherwise and want one step that makes a visible difference
Reach for foundation instead when you need to cover redness, marks or uneven pigmentation. A BB cream will soften those, not hide them, and layering it on to try does not work - it simply looks thick.
How to apply it
The whole appeal is a finish that reads as skin, so restraint is the technique:
- Apply on top of absorbed moisturiser, never on top of a fresh layer
- Use fingers. Body heat thins the texture and helps it disappear into the skin
- Work from the centre outward, where you want most of it, and let it fade toward the edges
- Add concealer afterwards on the two or three spots that need it, rather than more BB cream everywhere
- Powder only the T-zone if you need it
Shade range and expectations
BB creams typically come in fewer shades than foundations, because they are semi-sheer and adapt more to the skin beneath. That makes them more forgiving to buy online - but they still need to be in the right depth and undertone, so check against your jawline in daylight.
The current shades, texture details and full composition are listed in the Faberlic catalogue, which is refreshed roughly every three weeks. Note also that a BB cream is not sun protection unless the catalogue lists an SPF for it - and even then, sunscreen applied properly does that job better.
