One fragrance is a compromise
Most people own one bottle and wear it everywhere. It is therefore always slightly wrong — too light for evenings, too heavy for July, too casual for an occasion.
The fix is not an expensive bottle. It is two or three inexpensive ones covering different situations.
The three-fragrance set
A daytime eau de toilette. Light, close to the skin, safe for the office. This is the one you will use most — probably 70% of your wearing.
Something heavier for evenings and winter. An eau de parfum, ideally in a warmer family. Worn less often, but nothing else substitutes when you want it.
Something fresh for hot weather. Citrus or aquatic, applied lightly.
That covers essentially every situation most people encounter, and it costs less than one bottle from the expensive end of the market.
Build it in order
Start with the daytime one, since it gets the most wear. Add the evening one next. The summer one last, unless you live somewhere hot.
Do not buy all three at once — you learn what you actually reach for by wearing one for a few months, and that makes the second purchase far better informed.
Rotating
Wearing the same fragrance daily has one drawback: you stop noticing it entirely, and adaptation makes overapplication likely. Alternating between two keeps both perceptible to you.
Application
Two or three sprays at the pulse points. No rubbing the wrists. Moisturised skin holds fragrance considerably longer than dry skin.
Testing
