"Radiance" and "glow" are among the vaguest words in skincare, and they describe two genuinely different things that get conflated.

The two kinds of glow

Optical glow — light reflecting evenly off a smooth, well-hydrated surface. A cream can deliver this, quickly, and it is real.

Actual skin health — even tone, good texture, no dullness from dead cell buildup or dehydration. This takes weeks to months and comes from the whole routine plus sleep, hydration and sun protection.

A radiance cream reliably delivers the first. It contributes to the second only as any good moisturiser does.

Why skin looks dull

Worth knowing, because the cause determines the fix:

  • Dehydration — the most common, and the fastest to fix. Skin that lacks water does not reflect light evenly
  • Dead cell buildup — occasional gentle exfoliation helps
  • Poor sleep — no cream compensates
  • Sun damage over years, which causes uneven tone
  • Smoking, which affects skin visibly

If your dullness is dehydration, this kind of product helps within days. If it is sun damage accumulated over twenty years, it will not.

Using it

  • Slightly damp skin, within a minute of cleansing. For a hydration-led product this is the step that matters most
  • A small amount, pressed in with fingertips
  • The neck as well
  • Sun protection over the top — and this is not incidental to radiance, since sun damage is the main long-term cause of uneven tone

Judging it

Two to four weeks. Look at your skin in daylight rather than bathroom lighting, which flatters everything.

The things that outperform it

Sleep, adequate water, gentle cleansing, and daily sun protection. Unglamorous, free, and more effective for how skin looks in six months than any radiance product.

The cream makes today better. Those make next year better. Both are worth having.
