A Faberlic face mask is one of the easiest things to add to a routine and one of the easiest to overuse. The formats are inexpensive, the results show immediately, and that combination tempts people into masking four or five times a week — which is usually where skin starts complaining.
Matching the format to the job
Faberlic's mask range spans four broad types, and each solves a different problem.
Sheet masks deliver a hydrating essence under occlusion. The visible plumping lasts hours, not days. Their real use is before an event, not as a routine backbone.
Clay masks absorb surface oil. The mistake is leaving them until fully dry — at that point the clay starts pulling moisture from skin instead of oil. Rinse while still tacky.
Cream masks are essentially a richer moisturiser with longer contact time. They earn their place in winter and on dry skin.
Overnight leave-on masks replace your night cream and rinse off in the morning. Least effort of the four.
The catalogue rotates roughly every three weeks; see the current catalogue on faberlic.com for what is stocked now.
A realistic weekly schedule
If skin gets worse after you start "taking better care of it", the mask schedule is the first thing to cut.
- Hydrating sheet masks: two or three times a week is plenty
- Clay: once or twice, and only on oily zones rather than the whole face
- Cream and nourishing: once weekly
- Exfoliating: once weekly at most, never on the same day as acids elsewhere in your routine
Where it goes in the routine
Cleanse, mask, tone, serum, moisturise. The step people skip is the last one — a mask hydrates, but without a moisturiser sealing it in, much of that water simply evaporates within the hour.
Overnight masks are the exception, since they are the final step by design.
What masks cannot do
They give a real but temporary result. A mask will not clear persistent acne, fade redness caused by broken capillaries, or substitute for prescribed treatment. If breakouts are ongoing, if most products cause irritation, or if you suspect dermatitis, see a doctor — another new mask is not the answer to that.
One small test worth doing
Before a full-face application of anything new, especially a clay or exfoliating formula, put a little along the jawline and wait a day. Cheap insurance against a bad week.
