A round eye is close to as tall as it is wide, with white visible above and below the iris. It reads open and youthful — and occasionally startled. Makeup for round eyes solves one geometric problem: adding length.
That single idea decides everything else. Anything that lifts and drops at once makes the eye rounder. Anything that stretches sideways works in your favour.

Step by step
- Primer, then a neutral wash across the lid.
- Place your mid-tone horizontally — from the middle of the lid out past the outer corner, leaving the inner third clean.
- Take the deepest shade into the outer corner and join the upper and lower lash lines into a soft sideways triangle. This is the step that lengthens; skip it and nothing else quite works.
- Work the crease in the outer half only, without dragging colour up toward the brow.
- Smudge shadow along the outer third of the lower lash line and carry it a couple of millimetres beyond the corner.
- Two or three coats of mascara on the outer lashes, one in the centre, almost nothing on the lower lashes.
The wing angle
Follow an imaginary line from the corner of your nostril through the outer corner of the eye, and take the flick along it with only a slight lift. A steep vertical wing sits on top of a round eye as decoration — the line looks good, the shape stays round. A long, low wing changes the proportions instead.
Keep the liner thin where it starts near the middle of the lid and let it thicken toward the outer third.
The trap to avoid
Round eyes are often made up using advice written for small eyes: pale waterline, central highlight, everything blended upward. Those tactics genuinely enlarge a small eye, and they round out an already-round one.
Darkening the outer half of the lower waterline is the opposite move, and it suits round shapes well — losing a millimetre of visible height is exactly what you want here.
